Episode transcript
Today we are in a Spanish café with Pandi and Pengu! Pengu is the waiter and Pandi is the customer. First they say hello: ¡Buenos días! (Good morning!)
Pengu asks: ¿Qué quieres? (What would you like?) Pandi answers politely: Quiero un té, por favor. That means: I would like a tea, please.
Let’s look at the café menu. The first three words: un té (tea), leche (milk), agua (water).
The other three words: pan (bread), un helado (ice cream), un pastel (cake).
We can ask for two things at once: Quiero un té y un pastel, por favor. (I would like a tea and a cake, please.) The word y means “and”.
Pengu brings the tray: ¡Aquí tienes! Pandi says thank you: ¡Gracias! Pengu replies: ¡De nada!
To ask the price: ¿Cuánto cuesta el pastel? The answer: El pastel cuesta tres euros. The tea’s label says 2 euros: El té cuesta dos euros.
To pay, we ask for the bill: La cuenta, por favor. (The bill, please.) Pengu says: Son cinco euros. Pandi counts the 1 euro coins: uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco.
As Pandi leaves, they say goodbye: ¡Adiós! (Goodbye!) Pengu replies: ¡Hasta luego! (See you later!)
Summary: Quiero ..., por favor. To ask the price: ¿Cuánto cuesta? To ask for the bill and say thank you: La cuenta, por favor. ¡Gracias! Now try it in Café de la Granja!
