🌍 7 Continents, 5 Oceans

Episode transcript

The world is turning! On it there are huge pieces of land and huge stretches of water. Today we will learn the world’s 7 continents and 5 oceans.

About 7 out of every 10 parts of the Earth’s surface are water. We call the very big pieces of land continents. We call the very big bodies of water oceans.

First, the two biggest continents. In first place is Asia: the biggest of them all, and the home of giant pandas. In second place is Africa: lions live on its savannas.

Next come the two Americas. North America is the third biggest continent and South America is the fourth. The Statue of Liberty stands in North America. Llamas live in South America.

Three more continents. Antarctica is fifth: it is almost all covered in ice, and penguins live there. Europe is sixth: the Eiffel Tower is in Paris. Oceania is seventh, the smallest continent: kangaroos live there.

Let’s put them in order, biggest to smallest: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, Oceania. Look at the height of the columns: Asia is huge, and Oceania is the smallest.

Here is a trick to remember the order: the first letters of the continents are A, A, N, S, A, E, O. Let’s make a sentence with those letters: Awesome Ants Never Skate Across Empty Oceans. You can make up your own sentence too!

Now let’s look at the waters: the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Southern Ocean, and in the far north the Arctic Ocean. Pengu is swimming in the Southern Ocean!

Let’s put the oceans in order too, biggest to smallest: the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Southern and the Arctic. The Pacific is so big that it is even bigger than all the land put together!

Türkiye is on two continents. Most of it, Anatolia, is in Asia. The small part, Thrace, is in Europe. Between them are the Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara and the Dardanelles.

Summary: the world has 7 continents: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Oceania. It also has 5 oceans. Türkiye is in Asia and in Europe. Now try it in Where Am I? World Tour!
